Black Debutantes: A Collection of Early Works by Black Women Directors (May 2025, BFI Southbank)
This season celebrates the Black Women filmmakers past and present who's remarkable work and reverberating impact is oftentimes underseen and under discussed. Conceived in response to the lack of Black Women director's with robust enough filmographies to uphold a month long season solo, Black Debutantes uncovers a number of films new to UK audiences including Jessie Maple's Will, and Zeinabu Irene Davis' Compensation.
Several of the filmmakers included, such as Cauleen Smith and Bridgett M. Davis and Ngozi Onwurah have only made one traditional feature in their lifetime.
A touring, sporadic programme of loved and loathed films starring your favourite pop divas. Previous screenings include Mariah Carey’s Glitter, Beyoncé’s Carmen: A Hip Hopera and Cher and Christina Aguilera’s Burlesque.
